Are these exchange rates live?

No. The converter ships with a static, dated snapshot of representative rates so it works reliably offline and without a paid data feed. The page always shows the snapshot date and warns when the rates are stale. A live data source is a planned future addition.

Why does it warn that the rates are out of date?

The snapshot has a fixed capture date. When that date is older than the freshness threshold, the converter shows a warning so you treat the result as an approximation rather than a real-time quote.

How is a cross rate between two non-USD currencies calculated?

Every rate is stored relative to a common base (USD). To convert from one currency to another, the tool divides the destination rate by the source rate, so the base cancels out and the math stays exact.

Can I share a specific conversion?

Yes. The amount and both currencies live in the URL, so copying the address bar reopens the exact same conversion for anyone who clicks the link.
